About

Xinyi Bai excels in human-centred and speculative futures design, focusing on nature-based solutions for sustainable innovation. She emphasises humanistic care and pragmatism, using non-human systems to address contemporary challenges and solve problems. By fostering emotional connections between humans and nature, Bai aims to highlight their interdependence, promoting cultural change and a deeper awareness of the links between nature, technology, and the economy.

"Healing" is a professionally designed, bio-friendly fabric created to aid individuals in embracing their scars and confronting the feelings of shame and imperfection that often accompany them. This innovative textile not only promotes physical scar healing but also offers emotional support, encouraging users to see their scars as unique aspects of their identity rather than flaws to be concealed. Developed with sustainability in mind, "Healing" integrates natural materials and advanced design principles to create a product that is both effective and environmentally conscious. The fabric combines a permeable silk mesh infused with a specially formulated ointment, derived from Traditional Chinese medicine, and covered with biodegradable silicone. This unique composition ensures optimal scar treatment while aligning with zero-waste principles. In addition to scar care, "Healing" incorporates banana peels and sodium alginate into its design. These materials not only aid in healing but also support sustainable development by recycling organic waste. The fabric is fully biodegradable and, when placed in soil, can even facilitate plant growth, demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability. Ultimately, "Healing" seeks to provide a holistic approach to scar treatment, blending scientific innovation with environmental stewardship to foster both physical and emotional well-being. Through this approach, it helps users accept and celebrate their scars as part of their journey towards self-acceptance and healing.

SWEET DREAMS: A Personalized Sleep Solution for Insomnia SWEET DREAMS is a two-part service system designed for people struggling with insomnia, offering both a customizable and convenient solution. Users have the option to create their personalized sleep-enhancing drink using an innovative machine, paired with the original formula, allowing them to make their own sleep drink daily. For those who prefer a simpler approach, or don't have the machine, we’ve crafted edible drink capsules made from seaweed that encapsulate the formula in a water ball. Simply pop it into your mouth, and you’re good to go — a healthy, eco-friendly, and effortless way to improve your sleep. Did you sleep well last night? Want to sleep even better? Let SWEET DREAMS protect your gut and enhance your sleep! SWEET DREAMS is a revolutionary non-alcoholic drink developed to address insomnia by improving gut health. Harnessing the power of Lactobacillus plantarum(a beneficial bacterium) and Spirulina (a nutrient-rich micro-algae), the drink enhances intestinal health and balances brain chemistry through the brain-gut axis. This helps in boosting the production of serotonin and endorphins, known to elevate mood and promote relaxation. By incorporating tryptophan synthase(an enzyme facilitating the production of tryptophan), the formula naturally increases Melatonin and GABA levels in the brain, promoting calming effects and restful sleep. Beyond helping with sleep, this project is also about fostering an understanding of the non-human world. By highlighting the symbiotic relationship between humans and micro-organisms, it aims to promote a collective sense of responsibility toward sustainability. Each drink serves as a reminder of this connection, where the health of our gut and the natural world is intricately linked to our overall well-being. Better Gut, Better Sleep! Dive into the science of micro-organisms with SWEET DREAMS and enjoy a peaceful, healthy night’s rest.

ELF is the 21 st-century care service for the elderly. New wearable devices are used to detect various body data of the elderly and send alerts when abnormal data appears. It is also able to provide fall protection measures. This design is based on the trend that modern society is becoming more and more globally integrated, with young people working far away from home all year round. The number of empty nesters is increasing. The social welfare security system cannot take care of the needs of the elderly living alone. The aim is to provide new functional clothing for the elderly that is safer and more comfortable.
