Hi, my Name is Zaria Thomas
I am an artist from High Point, North Carolina. My primary focus is oil painting with some mixed media elements, such as Leather and fabric.
Volition, the faculty or power of using one's will. My Volition explores the tension of stillness and movement, containment and release. I chose to center this around Black ballerinas, this body of work examines how bodies hold histories, how gestures communicate unspoken narratives, and how framing becomes both boundary and agency. Through painting and mixed media, I consider endurance not as silent suffering but as a place of resistance and re-imagined empowerment. The spaces within my which I refer to as Mindscapes, ask viewers to engage with what is withheld as much as what is revealed, inviting reflection on the weight of perception and the persistence of will.
