Textiles - Weave

Hi, my name is Evie Hensser and I am a final year Textile Design Student specialising in woven design. Throughout my degree I have discovered a passion for colourful and heavily patterned textiles, which has led me to my collection ‘The Saturday Club’. Inspired by the style and aesthetic of the Bloomsbury Group, ‘The Saturday Club’, is a play on the famous Groups ‘Friday Club’, in which love for art and design was shared. This collection captures a contemporary reimagining of traditional English design, through eccentricity, playfulness and decoration. My designs intend to inflict values of a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic, evoking a sense of nostalgia for consumers who appreciate the charm of the arts and crafts style and home decoration. The collection brings together both conventional and contemporary elements, combining historical influence with a modern sensibility. I have expressed this through a range of compositions, focusing on bridging my traditional influence with designing for modern day textiles and interiors. Blending natural yarns and materials with a focus on traditional techniques, I have experimented with methods such as digital printing and weaving, aiming to create designs that are sustainably conscious with longevity in mind. The aim for this collection was to take inspiration from the eras of the Bloomsbury Group, Arts and Crafts Movement and Folk Art, and turn it into a diverse collection that is made to last and intricately designed.
