About:

Narrative is very important in my work, it is where I start and finish. The short stories I write inform my making greatly and it is how I visualise the objects I will make. For this self-directed study I wrote a poem and two short fictional tales from which I created silver objects that are subject to a single theme, the silver birch tree. Through researching the folklore and visual attributes of the silver birch tree I have comprised a series of narratives and objects that personify the uses and beliefs of this magic tree, making them tangible and real.

This is the second set of objects I created for the next part of the story. These are made more for a specific character in the story, a witch called Ena but are still inspired by Silver Birch trees.

In this project I was very inspired by silver birch trees, I made a series of rings that replicate the texture of the bark, and combined silver and silver birch bark to re-enforce the fragility of the papery bark.
