Representing the cutting-edge of fashion creativity, the finalists, which include menswear designers for the first time in the competition’s history, now have just 11 weeks to bring their concepts to life before presenting their collections in Hong Kong on 5 September at the live Grand Final at CENTRESTAGE, where winners will be announced. The Redress Design Award (formerly the EcoChic Design Award) is the world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition. Organised by Redress, the competition works to educate emerging fashion designers around the world about sustainable design theories and techniques in order to drive growth towards a circular fashion system. By putting sustainable design talent in the global spotlight, the competition creates a unique platform for passionate and talented fashion game-changers to transform the global fashion industry and rewards the best with career-changing prizes to maximise long-term impact. You must design a womenswear, menswear, or unisex sustainable collection for contemporary, fashion-loving individuals who value directional design (be it inspired by the runway or the street) and technical innovation as much as they respect people and the planet. THE PRIZES FIRST PRIZE - THE REDRESS DESIGN AWARD 2019 WITH JNBY GROUP You will join a team of fashion leaders to assist in creating a contemporary sustainable collection for a JNBY Group brand, which will retail in JNBY Group stores around the world and online. Following your victory, you will work with a JNBY Group design team in the culturally rich city of Hangzhou, China for up to three months, during which you will get experience in fabric sourcing, work on the designs and product development, get insight to production and learn more about all aspects of building a collection, with mentorship from top experts in fashion, business and sustainability. Widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in sustainable fashion, Orsola has nurtured many of the pioneering names in sustainable fashion from their early designs through to their established brands. This mentorship opportunity will give you expert and targeted support, which will be provided to you wherever you are in the world through video calls and by email over a six-month period. This will propel your career in sustainable fashion design forwards and prepare you, your visions and your collections for the competitive market of attracting fashion buyers and media – and ultimately securing success.
