This year 33 undergraduate works were given Gold Awards by the China Academy of Art CAA. ARTS THREAD takes a look at collections created by two winning designers Zhou Li and Han Jinfeng from the School of Crafts.

Alongside the Graduation events, the fourth annual Zhijiang International Youth Art Festival took place. During the festival a total of 3,000 pieces were exhibited, created by 5,000 designers from CAA, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music and a further 13 colleges and universities from the Zheijang province.

Zhou Li Zhou Li

Zhou Li's Ti He project is inspired by ancient Chinese ceramic carriers. Li introduces wood into the design of the carriers, creating large curved handles. These handles mean the user no longer physically touches the vessel, treating it almost like an artefact or spiritual object.

Han Jinfeng Han Jinfeng

Half hearts by Han Jinfeng looks at the issue of internet violence and its impact on people's wellbeing. Jinfeng takes inspiration from the shape and behaviour of saltwater clams and crafts a series of shells that symbolise strength and protection from online hate. Jinfeng uses painting and polishing techniques to create tonal contrast on the shells which are presented in bold black and red gradients.
