Nearly 100 young designers from around the world are currently presenting their work at TALENTE – Masters of the Future 2023 from 8-12 March at the Internationale Handwerksmesse Munich.

TALENTE features contemporay craft designers from China, India, Iran, Lithuania, Macedonia, Mexico, Slovakia and Taiwan. Many creative disciplines will be represented including glass, ceramics, jewellery and textiles.

Participants include Arts Thread member & Shenkar Textiles BDes graduate Tal Narkiss who was shortlisted in the Global Design Graduate Show in collaboration with Gucci in 2022. Narkiss’ project, Kelim , is a series of hand woven 3D vessels made on a Dobby loom. The pieces draw inspiration from the designer’s grandfather’s antique collection and make use of yarn dyed using soil collected in Israel.

Fellow Arts Thread member Xinyi Chen , an MA Jewellery graduate 2022 of Central Saint Martins UAL, is showing her Data Garden project. The collection of jewellery is made from e-waste, recycled silver and PVD and seeks to explore how physical fashion can be made from repurposed digital tech.

Yoojung Kim , also an Arts Thread member and a Royal College of Art graduate 2020, will show her Void Filler Series, a collection of amber carved from a single raw block of natural tree resin and from synthetic resin. Kim writes on her Instagram: “In terms of materials, amber, a fossilized tree resin, and plastic, a synthetic resin created by human, seem to have a deep relationship with each other but the combination of the two materials in jewellery looks rather awkward. It doesn’t seem right to put precious amber together with cheap plastic, and moreover, in this series, rather than highlighting the value of amber, the plastic is embedded in the amber, which is not normally expected from traditional amber jewellery.”

Markéta Brožová will show their glass project that explores the topic of plastic pollution in our sea water, Nora Arrieta will present her playful, narrative based ceramics that deal with meat, mould and decay. Jeroen van den Bogaert's elaborate tapestries juxtapose religious scenes with images of police brutality, drunken friends carrying each other and dirt bikers.

TALENTE - Masters of the Future 2023 is taking place 8 to 12 March 2023 in Hall B1 at Internationale Handwerksmesse , Munich.
