About

Emma Windsor-Liscombe is an interdisciplinary artist with a practice based in painting. In her work, she is currently building a contemporary mythology, based on themes related to nostalgia, trauma, and addiction. This on-going narrative is told through the lives of women, and the recurring image of some family members. Her work explores both known and unknown mythologies, and documents the stories of individuals through her work in portraiture, an extension of her practice  she interprets as  legacies told through paint and symbolic imagery.  Alongside her painted works, Emma creates large-scaled drawings, scrolls and sculptures in graphite, charcoal and watercolour, using reclaimed materials such as paper bags, thread, and papers.  Through these works she explores food waste, the climate crisis, and contemporary depictions of ancient Greek mythology. Through the creation of visually appealing imagery and, the reclaiming of discarded materials, her aim is to bring beauty and tragedy in visual harmony. She lives and works in London, and is a recipient of the Travers Smith Art Programme.

Bloom is a series of narrative paintings, altarpieces and portraits. Bloom establishes a contemporary mythology around the lives of women, known and unknown, exploring themes related to trauma, addiction, abortion and nostalgia. The stories of these women, and how they relate to the above themes, creates an ongoing narrative that, in telling stories through a handful of characters, can appeal to a broader audience, and their own stories.
