Disruptive Surfaces is a collection of wallpapers and fabrics intended for commercial office settings, inspired by 1960's Op-Art prints and Artists, as well as Dazzle Ship Camouflage and soundwave frequencies, drawing on historical architecture for initial inspiration. I wanted to create a project exploring the possibilities of creating illusion-like prints and designs, experimenting with how different the illusions are when created with linear, geometric shapes and lines, compared to those created using more movement and fluid lines, and how it changes again when the two ideas are combined together. Drawing on the way Dazzle Camouflage can distort the shape and perception of an object, I explored the ways in which I can hide or alter the perception of my designs to create movement and confusing aspects throughout the collection. I have produced a series of wallpapers and fabrics from my experimentation using techniques such as screen printing with standard, metallic, and puff binders, foiling, digital printing, and CAD embroidery.
