About
All my life, I have been drawn to nature. I grew up in the countryside; my mom’s house is located next to a forest, and so is my dad’s. I care deeply about our connection to the earth, as well as human connection. In my work, I strive to visualize this. The human body has always fascinated me—how it moves, what can be communicated through body language, and its inherent beauty. This fascination led me to study Jewellery Design after obtaining my Photography degree.
Alix Spooren's Limited Edition Forest is a sensory installation that explores the disappearing connection between humans and nature. Growing up near forests, Spooren’s bond with the earth and fascination with the human body shape her artistic practice, blending photography and jewelry. The installation features scented trees made from real fallen leaves and dead wood, sold as souvenirs—each purchase symbolizing the loss of part of the forest and critiquing capitalist commodification of nature. Visitors can contribute forest memories on postcards, creating a shared archive of fading landscapes. The work reflects on loss, nostalgia, and our urge to preserve what is vanishing.
