Arts Thread

I am a final year woven textiles design student from Manchester Metropolitan University. With strong digital capabilities, a love of the details and considered colour palettes - I am a textile designer with all the necessary requirements to craft technical and visually stimulating woven textiles. I strive to craft warps that disrupt the stripes and grids associated with traditional weaving and showcase natural fibres' ability to be fresh and contemporary if used innovatively. I particularly thrive when using unusual materials and pushing the limits of alternative yarns to create fabrics that are outside of the box. I employ lateral thinking when approaching a brief, and consider how I can craft something beautiful, well-researched and sustainable while ensuring that I am meeting the brief's parameters. I want to honour an ancient heritage craft while harnessing its potential for contemporary applications; I am fiercely passionate about creating slow, thoughtful and functional textiles, while embracing new technologies such as 3D Stratasys printing to exhibit how a craft with infinite possibilities will always be relevant, and should be honoured as a result.
