My work explores my interest in heritage and history, imbedding historical inspirations with personal connection. With an interiors focus to my design, my work investigating both traditional hand printing techniques and digital methods, producing a wide range of design aesthetics. My practice centres around generating and iterating through drawing, using varying mediums to explore texture and provide a merge of design styles.
‘The Lure of the Underground’ is an energetic and lively interiors print collection, visually communicating the nostalgia of vintage London Transport. This project translates the excitement and vibrancy of 1920s Transport of London, pulling inspiration from Art Deco transport posters and moquette history to build the aesthetic of the designs. Through surface pattern, this collection explores the heritage of the Underground, resonating with the people who’s memories lie in the evolution of London’s train network. With personal connection embedded within the theme, this collection centres around my childhood travels from the countryside to the city, interpreting journey across rural landscapes into urban surrounding through the view from inside a train. Expressive oil pastels and dynamic lines, form the engaging textural patterns of this collection. These variations in marks, combing bold lines and organic movement, translate the merge of rural and urban. With its inviting warmth and abstract compositions, ‘The Lure of the Underground’ provides surface prints for commercial and domestic interiors, plus the build environment and transport.
