I am currently studying Textile design at the Arts University Bournemouth. My work focuses on creating mixed media pieces for fashion combining knit, CAD embroidery and print.
Untamed tidal terrain is a collection for high end women’s fashion inspired by British coastal landscapes, taking visual inspiration from wildflowers, birds and coastal textures. Through my designs I aimed to highlight the importance of conserving environmental and coastal ecosystems, helping to compensate for habitat loss due to the changing climate. I have a keen interest in exploring how I can create responsibly as a textile designer. Sourcing natural fibres, as well as deadstock yarns is a way in which I have incorporated this into my work. I have used a combination of 100% wool and cotton yarns which are self-replenishing and biodegradable. I also used high quality fabrics such as deadstock cottons.
‘Pres at seven’ is a collection that I created for the context of women’s fashion and accessories. This project was inspired by photographs that I took over the summer of my friends, particularly on a night out, looking at the connection between how we have revisited childhood play through dressing up and accessorising as a nostalgic way to have fun and express ourselves. To create this collection, I used the textures and shapes found within my photographs, as well as taking inspiration from both the 1920s and 2000s dress and party culture. I also sourced deadstock yarns.
