Alejandro Jodorovsky’s ‘The Holy Mountain’ (1973) inspires this story, as well as the filmmaker’s profound study of the Tarot revealed in his book ‘The Way of Tarot - The Spiritual Teacher In The Cards’, as both played an important role into the designer’s creative and spiritual development. The design direction looks towards a mix of the archetypes that are highlighted by the characters in the film, inspiring the silhouettes of the garments as well as the colour palette. The Tarot de Marseille card deck inspires the print, as they become a key element in it’s development, as some of the cards from the Major Arcana were redesigned to express the designer’s reinterpretation of their meaning. Each final look becomes a pictorial representation of the cards and their archetypes. *“Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem is the meaning of the alchemical acronym V.I.T.R.I.O.L. Translated from Latin: “Visit the interior of the earth and by rectifying (purifying) you will find the hidden (philosopher's) stone.”* This becomes the designer’s mantra throughout the creative process, reflecting the journey of finding and expressing yourself, the same principle that is also the basic aim of all spirituality.

The design work is based on taking a deeper look at the initial research of my FMP and adapting the new findings to fully commit to an applied to market research and design direction.
1988: a seminal year in the history of denim, a year that marks the arrival of “Barbie Jeans” who came dressed in a light-blue fringed denim jacket and matching skirt with frosted pink lace - being the inspiration behind this project.
