Animation BA Hons
DMU BA Animation has a vibrant and friendly studio culture engaging in storytelling, using predominantly 2D digital animation and reintroducing 3D techniques. We take our students from idea generation in both visual and written formats, with the development of sketchbook and simple sequential image making. Our students explore a range of preproduction techniques to organise and stimulate idea generation such as, investigating film theory, script writing, storyboarding and creating animatics. They engage in theoretical and experimental visual communication for innovative character and environmental design. Animation learning focuses on character performance and understanding and subverting the animation principles. We encourage students to develop their own distinctive identity, breathing performance and life into the characters. In the final year we give our students the space to graduate with a major animation. The students create innovative 2D animation shorts for competitions and festival. They can also produce showreels tailored to the animation industry. We give our students the space to develop their own distinctive creative voice.
