A textile designer focused on pushing the boundaries of conventional weave. Influenced by architectural and sculptural practices, translating them into woven designs through process and material led development combined with traditional and contemporary weaving techniques.
LAYERS explores the development of material-led architectural textiles for interior spaces. The work investigates how textiles can move beyond flat, decorative surfaces to become materials that engage with architecture, through construction and layering techniques. Drawing on references such as Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural drawings, Bruce Goff, and Bart Prince, the project seeks to translate their architectural designs into woven and constructed textile forms. The intentionally material and process-led project allows experimentation to guide outcomes, such as repurposing and incorporating veneer offcuts into woven designs, influencing colour, surface, and structure. The collection aims to sit between design and art, producing textiles that function as interior installations whilst operating as expressive, sculptural objects. Sensory engagement, visual depth and weight are central to the concept. KINETICS investigates how textiles act as dynamic elements in architecture within changing environmental and social conditions. The project explores biomimetic origami with advances in space design and technology to shape lightweight, portable, and adaptable textile systems for use on and beyond planet Earth. Addressing climate change and displacement, the proposed textile-based structures adapt to different environments, whilst considering future developments that could allow these materials to generate solar energy and regulate temperature. By combining material innovation, movement, and architecture, Kinetics presents textiles as folding forms, shaping shared spaces that can shift from open to more intimate settings, while improving comfort through acoustic control.
