About
Roisin is an enthusiastic versatile print and surface pattern designer, who is eager to continuously challenge herself artistically through a great range of image making and design processes. As a creative shapeshifter, she has a varied design practice from a stylised approach to drawing to softer painterly designs. What remains consistent across all projects, is her extensive research driven work. A keen interest in human/user centred design and creating work that responds to the needs of different clients and consumers, her work often explores societal research ( such as well-being psychology and human connection to nature) and trends that are fueled by shared consumer needs. Roisin is very open to creating for a wide range of market audiences from fashion to interiors.
Viewing everything in her surroundings as an opportunity to create new visuals, she is influenced by a variety of subjects with recent work leaning towards nature. Beginning, her design process with detailed observational drawings which develop in to stylised forms with accents of mark making textures. Roisin’s practice involves a fusion of digital and hand-craft with a keen interest in the technical intricacies of the making of designs and repeat patterns.
The tale of two gardens is a highly research driven project that explores the therapeutic qualities of gardens and how these may be translated into surface pattern design to enhance restful and joyous wellness in the home.Investigating the similarities between garden design and textile design, design choices for form, scale, colour and composition are fuelled by psychology research and studies that suggest engaging all senses within the garden enhances positive well-being. Observational studies are transformed into hand painted stylised compositions of bountiful blooms and the rich textures of the garden are visually translated through mark making and emphasised through purposeful use of a variety of surface finishes to represent aspects of touch in the garden( eg. the smooth feel of foil, tapered 3D elements mimic the slippery tapered form of grass.). To provide wellness at all hours, ‘ Garden Reverie’ illustrates the daytime bliss of nature whilst ‘Luna Blossoming’ illuminates the secretive night blooming flowers that evoke calmness as they glisten in the night, with the hidden moths dancing through nature’s evening escape.
