About:
Focusing on psychoanalytical object relations theory and the notion of transitional objects, I am currently exploring our connection and interaction with objects in internal and external space.
As they have a previous identity and history I am using secondhand objects and toys. Found items such as pots and vessels represent the body as a container, and now abandoned soft toys may have once been transitional objects in their own right, used to establish identity and explore separation from the external world.
By wrapping all of these items with thread, as a visual representation of transitional space and to symbolise the invisible ties that bind us to each other, I am investigating our sense of self, our identity, and our relationship with others.
Referencing the mirroring relationship between the mother or primary carer and infant in the early stages of development, the series of short films highlights the role of the transitional object as it moves between internal and external reality during the formation of self.
