I fell in love with theatre from a young age, growing up with the immersive beauty that has made me strive and develop a set of costume skills I am proud of and well known for within my community.
The future is truly unknown, but I will never lose my love for the creative arts, both theatre and film.
This project involved perfecting the complexity of tailoring to make a well fitted waistcoats inspired by the 1800’s. Focused on the Russian play ‘Marriage’ by Nikolai Gogol with the character design being Ivan Kuzmich Podkolyosin. Taking inspiration from Russian architecture, the winding vine design is entirely hand embroidered; along with the interlaced wedding rings. This project was entirely sustainable with all fabrics and embellishments being sourced from dead stock and personal storage. Modelled by Oliver Timms
Pet En L’air; created using the Janet Arnold Patterns of Fashion 1 - Snowshill pattern. The garment is fully fitting to my model and the piece includes an internal corset back and a row of hook and bars along the side of the stomacher for ease of dressing. The kisses were created using a wooden laser cut print designed by myself and an appliqué technique for the final positioning. Designed for the character of Madame Du Barry from the 2022 BBC series ‘ Marie Antoinette’ Modelled by Jentina Ware Makeup by Issy Mcfadyen Photographed by Lyla Mcbrearty
Original Victorian blouse pattern used to create a garment based off Erin Morgenstern’s ‘The Night Circus’ in particular the character of Poppet Murray. Strongly focused on capturing the curiosity that lies within the night sky and the link between her magical powers and the circus. Working in purely Black and White allowing more design features to flourish and represent deeper characteristics of Poppet.
Focused on ‘Del Toro’s Pinocchio’ in particular the character Geppetto, bringing in design elements from my upholster and antique dealing grandfather and combining this with Germany during the WW2 I created a pair of fall front trousers that had a story. The entire garment was made from recycled deadstock fabric and no purchasing was made to increase the authentication of the trousers, each patch shows a year of wear and tear.
Series of Bonnets and Accessories focusing on the natural elements and how different classes saw these within the 1800’s. Designed for the 2020 ‘Ammonite’ film the main focus was on the beauty of florals and how the rich wear them differently to the people who garden and maintain the allurement for the way people perceive nature.
My first project in Buckinghamshire New University was designed with the new 2023 ‘Barbie’ movie in mind, challenging the idea of what a perfect woman looks like. The garment was created by adapting an original 1950’s wedding dress pattern and combining it with a unique twist of a runaway bride gone wrong. Drawing inspiration from Tim Burtons ‘The Corpse Bride’ I used recycled tulle ,handmade ribbon flowers and basic distressing techniques to give a ghost-like appearance. Modelled by Amelia Johannessen Makeup by Petya Georgieva
This project was my FMP in my Level 3 Extended Diploma in Fashion and textiles at Exeter College. The Covid-19 Pandemic inspired me to focus on the contrast between high end, red carpet fashion and lounge wear. I took inspiration from Met Gala looks and what celebrities advertised themselves wearing during the Lockdown. I created a collection of clothes that provide comfort but have the appearance of high end couture pieces we see on runways. These garments were made completely out of recycled towel fabric and hand dyed to achieve each colour i desired.
My entry into the 2022/2023 Royal Opera House competition; creating an innovative design on the Magic Flute Opera. I placed second within Exeter College and have been commended by many for this piece. Papageno with a child-like twist, incorporating jester like features inspired from antique children’s books and old artifacts in museums I focused on leaning in to the comedic characteristics. Combining this with his Bird-Catcher title within the Opera I played with primary colours and lots of motion in fabrics and other three-dimensional features within the costume.
